The location of Constantinople was in between two large landmasses. It would have made Constantinople a convenient place for people to gather and settle down, and would have been a point of intersection when travelers tried to get from one land mass to the other.
The Byzantine Empire formed a major branch of Chrsitianity called Orthodox Christians and Byzantine's form of Christianity seperated them from Eastern Europe into Russia and Russia became the dominant land from Eastern Europe after the fall of the byzantine Empire. Christianity and Islam would be divided along with the regions of Eastern and Western Europe.
Why Eastern Europe developed differently fromw estern europe. Eastern Europe took a different path from Western Europe, alltough Eastern Europe was Christian, it practiced orthodoxy and practiced trade with Asia.
